Scuff removal & colour matching, Brisbane

Paint touch-ups

Scuffed walls, marked skirting boards and tired patches brought back without repainting the room — matched for colour and, just as importantly, for sheen.

An empty living room with freshly touched-up white walls and clean skirting boards

Touch-up work has a reputation for looking worse than the damage it covers, and badly done it does. A dab of leftover paint on a wall that has had five years of light on it leaves a bright patch that catches the eye from across the room.

Done properly, a touch-up is about matching three things at once: the colour, the sheen level, and the way the paint was originally applied. Get all three right and the repair vanishes. Get the sheen wrong and it shows in every raking light, regardless of how good the colour match is.

What touch-ups cover

  • Scuff marks along hallways and behind furniture
  • Marked and chipped skirting boards, architraves and door frames
  • Hand marks around light switches and door edges
  • Small areas of damage in an otherwise sound wall
  • Previous repair patches that were never painted back in
  • Faded or discoloured sections beside windows

Getting a touch-up to disappear

  1. Clean first

A surprising number of "marks" are surface grime and come off with sugar soap. Painting over them just seals them in.

  2. Match colour and sheen

Sheen matters as much as colour. Low sheen touched up with a semi-gloss will show even when the colour is perfect.

  3. Match the application

A rolled wall touched up with a brush leaves a different texture. Where it matters, the touch-up is rolled with the same nap to keep the surface consistent.

  4. Know when to stop

Sometimes the right answer is to take the coat out to the nearest corner or edge instead of chasing a blend that will never quite sit. Tony will tell you when that is the case.

Common questions

Common questions

Will the touch-up be noticeable?
On a wall painted within the last couple of years with paint you still have, usually not. On older or sun-faded paint, a touch-up can show — in that case painting the full wall to the nearest corner gives a much better result, and Tony will say so up front rather than after the fact.
I still have the original paint tin. Does that help?
A great deal. Paint from the same batch is the best possible match. Even an old tin is worth keeping for the colour code on the label.
Is a touch-up cheaper than repainting the room?
Almost always, and that is the point of the service — it is how you make a property presentable without committing to a full repaint.
